In my practice, I have worked extensivey with people who experience trauma (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD), depression,
anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders,
cutting, attachment disruption, child abuse and neglect.
I always view my clients from a normative perspective. Although the behaviors and conditions above may look and feel
dangerous, scarey, or upsetting, they have actually served, at some point in time, to make the person engaged in them feel
better. My job is to help my clients understand this and then teach them about other behavioral choices that will serve the
same function without causing them psychological, emotional, and physical damage.
I also work with friends and family members of my clients to educate them about PTSD and its related conditions. Loved
ones usually feel more relief and less frustration when they understand the dynamics trauma can create in relationships and
can adjust their expectations accordingly. They can also begin to identify ways in which they can assist and support their
loved one through his or her recovery.
